Decontamination

DecontaminationThe nature of decontamination is dictated by the contamination. Biological hazards pose different challenges than chemical or radiological contamination. All decontamination procedures follow Federal and State guidelines and require professional support.

If you suspect a contaminant in your in environment, contact HV Environmental Services for support and help with isolation and containment activities. Stopping the spread of a contaminant is a high priority in limiting exposure to equipment and personnel.

Power driven contamination equipment and personnel must be isolated and decontaminated in a wash down area (minimum of 100 square meters is recommended).

A good water source and proper drainage are essential attributes in the site selection process. Once the decontamination site is selected, security becomes the next concern. Limiting access to the contaminated site and decontamination area limits exposure to the general population of employees, local inhabitants and curious observers.

Vehicles are generally washed from top down in hot soapy water for two to three minutes.

Isolated waste is packaged and placed in a lay down area for process neutralization usually off site.
