Relevant Experience

Summary

This project involved the sampling, characterization, excavation, handling, transportation and recycling of soil that was contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons. Active railroad tracks, paved roadways, a main water line, sewer lines, asbestos contaminated structures, a spill containment system for the railroad cars and an underground storage tank (UST), were all obstacles that complicated the excavation of the soil. All obstacles were excavated or removed prior to soil sampling, characterization, excavation, handling and transportation. All excavated areas were backfilled and compacted with EPA certified clean fill material.

Performance History

The original contract for the excavation of 2,100 tons of soil in twenty days. Only five days were allowed to remove sections of rail track, fence, water and sewer lines, spill containment systems and roadway, then excavate the area, backfill it and restore it to its original condition. The contract was amended to the account for 4,400 tons of contaminated soil and 90,000 gallons of contaminated water. HVE successfully completed the work in twenty-five working days.
